Here at Melliapis we offer a bespoke service to convert your woven wrap into a full or half buckle carrier, meh dai, podagei, buckle onbuhimo or ring sling.

For a complete full buckle carrier conversion, your wrap will need to be a minimum of 2.5 metres (however if you have a smaller piece of wrap fabric it can be used as the main panel of a carrier and we can provide any additional fabric for the reverse.). If you are providing non-wrap fabric it will need to be a minimum of 2.5 metres by 65-70cm width. Please contact to discuss pattern placement and fibre blend if you are unsure.
The starting price for our full buckle carrier conversions is £208 and for this, your carrier will be fully reversible and have the following features:

With the essential carrier, the straps can be worn crossed or rucksack style and baby is always in view due to no hood.
The Melliapis Essential Carrier features our signature topstitching on the shoulder straps, and includes leg padding which makes for a comfier ride for baby.
No padding in the waistband means it can be easily cinched in for smaller babies using the strap provided.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about our wrap conversion custom carriers
I have converted most blends of fabric including wool, silk, hemp, viscose, bamboo, rayon, Tencel, glitter and even cashmere and have only ever experienced a problem with one of the wool blends with a fairy pattern on. I now advise getting in touch and discussing a conversion with me if you have any wool or unusual blends. For information about the different types of wrap fabrics, please read this blog post.
We recommend using our soft structured carriers from around 3-4 months when baby has better head control.
Our carriers are sized as follows:
Baby Sized – 6 / 12 weeks to 18 months clothing size
Toddler Sized – 18 months to 3 years clothing size
Preschool Sized – 3 years – 5 years clothing size

Wraps are sized according to their length measured from taper to taper and they have a very random sizing system
To find out which size is your ‘base’ size start with a size 6 and tie in a front wrap cross carry, if you don’t have enough tails left over to tie a double knot then size up to a size 7, if you have too much left over and have long swishy tails then size down to a size 5.
Once you know what your base size is then you can work out which wrap size you need if you want to do a certain style of carry as they are usually described as using a wrap that is base minus 2 or base plus 1 etc.

Flat Hood – A flat hood is perfect for sheltering baby from wind, rain or other elements. It lies flat when not in use. It can be cinched up to provide head support.
Pixie Hood – A pixie hood is the same as our sweater hood but has a pointed end.
Sweater Hood – A sweater hood has a more rounded shape making it the perfect hood for adding accessories such as ears or dino spikes to your carrier.
Ears (Sweater Hood) – Add cute little ears to your carrier when paired with a sweater hood for a super cute look.
Dino Spikes (Sweater Hood) – Add funky dinosaur spikes to your carrier when paired with a sweater hood for a dinosaur inspired look.
Suck Pads – Suck pads are 2 fleece lined pads that use poppers to fasten around the straps of your carrier to protect them from being chewed or from drool, extending the life of your straps.
Single Loop Chest Belt – A chest belt is a piece of material with buckles that slip around the shoulders of your carrier to keep the shoulders from slipping off. It can also be used as a size adjuster.
Double Loop Chest Belt – The double loop chest belts are designed to stay on your carrier and are two separate loops, one on each shoulder. The functions are the same as the single loop chest belt.
Embroidery – Add any embroidery to your carrier, this could be a special phrase, your child’s name or something meaningful to you.
Padded to Wrap Straps (Meh Dai Only) – These straps are wrap style straps that are padded for the first 16 inches that then spread out into half wrap width so you get the benefit of padding and the adjustability of a wrap.

Strap Length Adjusters – Strap length adjusters are perfect for extending the versatility of your carrier. They’re great if the carrier is being worn by multiple caregivers of different heights and statures, the adjusters enable the straps to be lengthened or shortened. It’s also great for adding extra length when carrying on your back or over bulky coats. They adjust the strap size from the standard 16 inch to petite 12 inch.

Width Adjusters – Width adjusters are attached to the waistband of the carrier and enable the carrier width to be cinched in or let out to accommodate different sizes as your child grows.
