Custom Ring Slings

Here at Melliapis we offer a bespoke service to convert your woven wrap into a ring sling, whether it’s Gathered, a Hybrid or Floating style.

How does it work?

Different Ring Slings

Standard Gathered Shoulder from £23.50

Our gathered shoulder ring sling is perfect for all wearers, easily adjustable and can be worn either spread across the shoulder or gathered together to make it narrower.

Our ring slings are sewn with all seams enclosed so there are no unsightly raw edges, this means that you can also wear our ring slings with either side of the wrap showing and on either shoulder.

Gathered Floating from £23.50

Our gathered shoulder ring sling is perfect for all wearers, easily adjustable and can be worn either spread across the shoulder or gathered together to make it narrower. The floating shoulder uses 30cm more fabric than a standard ring sling and means two layers of fabric rest on the shoulder so it can feel more ‘cushy’ when wearing.

Our ring slings are sewn with all seams enclosed so there are no unsightly raw edges, this means that you can also wear our ring slings with either side of the wrap showing and on either shoulder.

Hybrid Ring Slings from £31.00

Our Hybrid shoulder is a mix of gathered and pleated shoulder which works wonders with thicker wraps, enabling them to mould to the shoulder comfortably while allowing it to run easily through the rings.

Our ring slings are sewn with all seams enclosed so there are no unsightly raw edges, this means that you can also wear our ring slings with either side of the wrap showing and on either shoulder.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about our wrap conversion ring slings

What size sling do I need?

Our standard wrap conversion ring sling is longer at 195cm as woven wrap fabric tends to be thicker and more fabric is trapped in the rings, the majority of wrap conversion ring slings we sell are custom made so can be any length you want from the wrap that you send for conversion.

This size sling will fit most wearers – the tail will just be longer or shorter on your body. It also comes down to preference, some love a very short tail so that there isn’t any excess fabric swinging around and others like a longer swishy tail, you can also use the tail fabric as a breastfeeding cover.

An easy way to gauge what length sling would suit you is to drape a piece of string or ribbon around your body like a sash with a long tail and measure the string.

Is my wrap suitable for conversion?

I have converted most blends of fabric including wool, silk, hemp, viscose, bamboo, rayon, Tencel, glitter and even cashmere and have only ever experienced a problem with one of the wool blends with a fairy pattern on. I now advise getting in touch and discussing a conversion with me if you have any wool or unusual blends. For information about the different types of wrap fabrics, please read this blog post.

What size is a standard wrap?

Wraps are sized according to their length measured from taper to taper and they have a very random sizing system

To find out which size is your ‘base’ size start with a size 6 and tie in a front wrap cross carry, if you don’t have enough tails left over to tie a double knot then size up to a size 7, if you have too much left over and have long swishy tails then size down to a size 5.

Once you know what your base size is then you can work out which wrap size you need if you want to do a certain style of carry as they are usually described as using a wrap that is base minus 2 or base plus 1 etc.

I don't have a wrap, do you have any fabric I can choose from?

We have a range of wrap scrap pieces you can purchase for conversion, browse here

Can I use non wrap fabric for my conversion?

Yes! If you are providing non-wrap fabric it will need to be the length specified in the listing by 65-70cm width. Please contact to discuss pattern placement and fibre blend if you are unsure.

How long will my ring sling wrap conversion take?

Custom ring sling wrap conversions have a turn around time of 5-7 working days from the date we receive your wrap.

We also offer a service to chop and rehem a wrap into a shorter sling.
Dependent on the size of your wrap (wrap size guide) we could also use any remaining pieces as a panel on a carrier, a ring sling, or if you have your own project in mind we can send the rest back to you.
